Philadelphia – The wife of a Philadelphia abortion doctor who was convicted of murdering several babies has also been sentenced to prison. As reported by Reuters, Pearl Gosnell, 52, received seven to 23 months in prison for providing assistance to her husband, Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who ran the Women’s Medical Society clinic in Philadelphia where the killings during late-term abortions were carried out.

Kermit Gosnell purportedly cut the necks of babies who were still alive after botched abortions. He was sentenced to three life terms without parole.

Common Pleas Court Judge Benjamin Lerner is quoted by Reuters as stating to Pearl Gosnell during sentencing, “I don’t like to put people in prison… But I can’t overlook the offenses that you have committed over time. I can’t overlook your role in this operation.”

Prosecutor Joanne Pescatore, who accused Gosnell of being unsympathetic, is further quoted as stating, “She was a key participant” and she and her husband had taken advantage of “these desperate women that were at the end of their ropes.”
