Houston – The prison sentence of former Enron CEO Jeffrey K. Skilling has been reduced by 10 years. As reported by NYTimes.com, a federal judge approved a deal between prosecutors and Skilling’s lawyers Friday, which will reduce his 24-year sentence to 14 years.
The decreased prison sentence comes after an appeals court ruling in 2009 in which a recalculation of Skilling’s sentence was ordered due to a calculation error in interpreting federal sentencing guidelines on the part of a judge.
Skilling, 59, has been imprisoned in Colorado. Daniel M. Petrocelli, Skilling’s lead attorney, is quoted in the report as stating of the sentence reduction, “We are relieved that Jeff can now look forward a day when he can come home to his family and friends.”
