New York – A wealthy Manhattan couple has filed a lawsuit against a private school in New York City over a $50,000 finger painting they claim they were scammed into buying. As reported by The Sideshow, Michelle-Marie and Jon Heinemann allege in the lawsuit that the Cathedral School of St. John the Divine tricked them into making the pricey purchase of a painting created by kindergartners.
The lawsuit alleges the school orchestrated an auction at which the couple was not present, but instructed the school to bid on the artwork for them until they won. An official at the school purportedly instructed a teacher to bid against them raising the price tag.
The lawsuit also alleges that the couple’s five-year-old son, who attended the school, was subjected to “unfair treatment” during the recent school year.
A spokesman for the Upper West Side school is quoted in the report as stating, “These allegations are sad, false and without merit… The Cathedral School has a more than 100-year reputation of excellence in education and service to its students and demonstrates a profound respect for the dignity and equality of every child.”
The Heinemann’s are seeking $415,900 in damages in the lawsuit.
