Commerce, Georgia – Twenty-one workers at a Georgia Alzheimer’s center have been charged following a raid of the facility. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), investigators uncovered allegations of mistreatment of patients by employees at the Alzheimer’s Care of Commerce after a search warrant was executed at the center on Tuesday, following a three-month investigation.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is quoted by the AP as stating of complaints made against the center, “Information obtained through the investigation indicated that patients were restrained with bed sheets and subjected to inhumane and undignified conditions to include ‘double diapering,’ which is a practice whereby multiple diapers were placed on the patients at once to keep the staff from changing soiled diapers as often.”
Charges faced by the 21 employees include cruelty to people 65 or older in addition to charges involving accusations of abuse, neglect and financial exploitation.
