Texas – Archaeologists made the discovery of two additional wrecks after finding wreckage from an early 19th century storm in the Gulf of Mexico. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the discovery was made this week of the ships which researchers say are the deepest Gulf or North American shipwrecks marine archaeologists have investigated.
Lead investigator Fritz Hanselmann is quoted by the AP as stating to reporters on Thursday of the findings, “What you’re going to see and hear I hope will blow your mind. Because it has ours… We went out with a lot of questions and we returned with even more. The big question we’re all asking is: What is the shipwreck? And the answer is we still don’t know.”
Hanselmann is a researcher from the Texas State University in San Marcos’ Meadows Center for Water and the Environment.
