New York, NY — A speedboat carrying the members of an upcoming wedding party slammed into a barge anchored in the Hudson River Friday night, July 26, 2013. The collision killed a woman believed to be the bride-to-be and the “best man,” and hospitalized three others, the Chicago Tribune reported.
According to officials, the construction barge was anchored below the Tappan Zee Bridge when the boat collided with it.
A woman, identified as 30-year-old Lindsey Stewart, was pulled from the water by rescue crews on Saturday, while 30-year-old Mark Lennon’s body was discovered on Sunday. One other person remains missing.
Lennon was found just one mile south of Piermont around 11 a.m.
Three other victims were taken to area hospitals for medical treatment.
The operator of the boat, Jojo John 35, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when the crash had occurred.
Police charged John with one count of vehicular manslaughter and three counts of second-degree vehicular assault. John is in custody at this time at a local hospital.
Investigations into the boating accident are underway.
