Washington – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad reportedly denied being linked to a chemical weapons attack on Syrians in a recent interview. As reported by Reuters, Assad was reported by CBS in its “Face the Nation” news program on Sunday to have also stated that there was no conclusive evidence that such an attack had taken place.

The Obama administration has accused Assad’s forces of carrying out a sarin gas attack on August 21 that purportedly killed over 1,400 Syrian people, including children. The administration has been considering seeking congressional authorization of a U.S. strike against Syria.

Assad is quoted by CBS as having stated in an interview, “There has been no evidence that I used chemical weapons against my own people.”

The interview conducted in Damascus with Assad is set to air on the CBS network and the “Charlie Rose” show on PBS on Monday.
