Alabama – An Alabama mother was infuriated after a “Corporal Punishment Consent Form” was sent home with her child from school. As reported by The Huffington Post, Wendy Chandler and other parents of Leeds Elementary School were sent the forms to decide whether or not corporal punishment could be used on their child, with those that did not get returned being viewed as implied consent.

Chandler is quoted in the report as stating of her surprise in receiving the note, “I really thought I was seeing things. I had to read it a few times…I checked off the ‘no’ box, but I realized a lot of kids are going to have the ‘yes’ box checked off.”

Chandler reportedly wrote on the bottom of the form, “I can not imagine how it would ever be ok to show violence towards anyone. Hitting a child is beyond disgraceful. Anyone who could hit a child should be put in jail.”

The mom has since started a Change.org petition in an effort to eradicate corporal punishment in schools in her district and state.
