New Jersey – A judge has lifted an order to keep a New York City hotel program put in place to help victims of Superstorm Sandy. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), State Supreme Court Judge Margaret Chan issued her decision to lift the injunction on Friday.
The program, which has been providing hotel rooms in New York City to 350 people who were left without homes due to Superstorm Sandy, could end on Monday. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has stated it will stop providing reimbursement to the city for the program.
A reported $70 million has been spent by the city to house evacuees, and the program has housed over 3,000 people, but there are the 350 remaining that housing advocates say may not have a place to go when the program ends.
