Florida – A Florida school principle could face criminal charges after being accused of harshly disciplining and injuring a student with Down Syndrome. As reported by NBCLatino, Ronda McDonald, who is the principal of the private school for children with learning disabilities, New Leaf, allegedly pulled the 11-year-old boy from his classroom and injured him.
Lt. Adam Militello with the Neptune Beach Police Department is quoted in the report as stating of the incident, “The child was defiant… He was not getting up from the ground and the principal pulled him across the floor, just under 30 feet, some of it unfortunately over concrete and over two door thresholds.”
Meibol Suarez, who adopted her grandson, says the incident resulted in the child being badly bruised. She is quoted as stating, “I would like to see that this never happens to any other kid ever.”
The child has since been placed in another school. An investigation is ongoing to determine whether charges will be filed.
