Washington – The family of Marvin Gaye has filed a lawsuit against music publisher EMI for purportedly failing to protect the copyright on two of his songs. As reported by Forbes, Gaye’s three children filed a lawsuit on Wednesday seeking up to $150,000 in damages for each alleged copyright infringement in the use of songs released by singer Robin Thicke, including his mega hit Blurred Lines.

The lawsuit is quoted as reading, “This conflict has resulted in EMI’s intentional decision to align themselves with the writers, without regard to the harm inflicted upon the rights and interests of the Gaye Family, and the legacy of Marvin Gaye.”

The family is also alleging that they were pressured by Sony-ATV to drop the case. Sony-ATV, which denies the claims, is quoted as stating, “While we very much treasure the works of Marvin Gaye and our relationship with the Gaye family, we regret that they have been ill advised in this matter.”
