Florida – The Florida Supreme Court heard arguments Thursday over a ballot measure related to the use of medical marijuana. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the court is not set to rule on whether the measure will be approved, but whether the wording of the summary is misleading.
An attorney for Republican Attorney General Pam Bondi argued that the 74-word ballot summary would mislead voters into approving the measure and urged that the proposal not be allowed on the ballot for 2014.
John Morgan, of the personal injury law firm Morgan & Morgan, is quoted by the AP as stating of the measure, “Everybody here knows that one day medical marijuana will be legal in Florida… Whether it’s in 2014 or ’24, it’s going to happen … The people want what they want. At the end of the day the people are going to get what they want. And I would say to the politicians who are trying to thwart this, it could very well be a referendum on your re-election.”
