Philadelphia, P.A.—At least 30 people were injured when two pile-ups occurred on the Pennsylvania Turnpike when the ice and snowstorms moved through the area last week. The automobile accidents took place just after 8 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 in the eastbound lanes of the highway, reports Lancaster Online.

Responding emergency medical crews transported 30 people from the scene to for Abington Memorial Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center treatment, but the injuries were not believed to be serious.

Motorists reported that the highways was slick at the time of the accidents, leading some to question how well the roads were treated. Up until 6 a.m. the morning of the wrecks, there was a speed restriction put in place based on the road conditions.

The wrecks left glass, plastic and gas from cracked gas tanks all over the roadway, which caused major delays.

Police are investigating the wrecks and the road conditions to see if they changed during the time the wrecks occurred and when the restrictions were lifted.
