Port Angeles, WA—A two-car collision tragically ended the lives of a grandmother and her grandson. The fatal head-on crash happened on Sunday afternoon, October 18, 2009 on Highway 112 about five miles west of Port Angeles, as reported by the Peninsula Daily News.
Mary Wyman, 60, of Port Angeles was driving a green 1997 Subaru Legacy eastbound on Highway 112 with her grandson Theodin Nelson, 6, of Port Angeles when her vehicle swerved off the right side of the roadway. Wyman then over-corrected, which caused her to veer back onto the road and cross the centerline. The Subaru slammed head-on into a 1990 Toyota Camry driven by newlywed James Dickens. Both Dickens and his new bride Emily Dickens, 22, of Vancouver, Washington were seriously injured in the wreck.
Reportedly, the couple has only been married for six days and they were on their honeymoon when the collision occurred. Emily Dickens was the airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she is undergoing surgery. She reportedly sustained lacerations to her liver and spleen; in addition to a cervical spine fracture. Police officials are still investigating the fatal crash.
