NewYorkInjuryNews.com – News Report – Whenever the lives of young children are taken, it seems almost more tragic than that of an elderly person who was at least given the chance to live their life. The life of energetic Margaret Sheerin was taken recently when a 2002 Saab driven by Erika Halweil, 31, of Sag Harbor collided with the child’s Radio Flyer wagon. The family was visiting the home for a vacation and unpacking the car. The father went inside for water and heard the screeching of the car’s tires and the crumpling of metal as it hit the guardrail. He did not reach his daughter in time.
This is truly an upsetting story, but thankfully, the family’s 2-year-old daughter, Kiera Elizabeth Sheerin, was not injured. Halweil, a mother as well, will not be charged in the accident, said East Hampton Town Police Chief Todd Sarris yesterday. “This is a very, very tragic accident. Based on our investigation, she did everything in her power to try to avoid that collision,” Sarris said.
