New Jersey (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — The police officials reported that three construction workers were injured on Tuesday in a conveyor belt accident in a pit at Bridgewater. The injuries suffered are said to be not serious and have caused no threat to life of the workers.
Lieutenant Eric Goleskie said that the workers who are still not named got injured when the conveyor belt suddenly collapsed while they were trying to fix it at Stavola Construction Material Plant on the Thomson Avenue nearby the Chimney Rock Road. The accident took place at around 4 o’clock in the evening. Goleskie said that the belt failed when the three workers were on its top and were trying to untangle its steel cables. According to him, the three of them fell down from a height of not more than 20 feet after the belt collapsed. The impact of the fall caused them to bounce up back for second time when they fell down.
According to the police officials, two of the workers were taken through ambulance to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, who had complaints about pain in their legs, and third of the workers was taken to hospital through helicopter for any possible injuries internally. A spokeswoman of the government Mine Safety and Health Administration reported that the third man was observed by the doctors for the entire night and one person was released from the hospital on Tuesday night only. She said that an operation will be conducted on the broken leg of the third person.
Goleskie said that no injuries were believed to threaten the life of any of the three workers and that the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration is being investigating the source of this accident. The police said that the representatives of state Department of Labor and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration have also reacted against the accident. The officials of Stavola are not available for any comment immediately.
