Legal news for Pennsylvania product liability attorneys–CPSC announced Lutron Electronics recall of roman shades due to strangulation hazards.
Coopersburg, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Lutron Electronics, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov, has announced that it has added Lutron Shading Solutions Roman Shades to the December 2009 recall list of similar roman shades and blinds due to strangulation hazards. All who have purchased these roman shades or rollup blinds are advised to discontinue use.
About 5,000 Lutron Shading Solutions Roman Shades were sold nationwide from January 2000 through August 2009 for prices between $120 and $4,500 per shade. They were distributed through Lutron Electronics Co. Inc., of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania and manufactured through Virginia Iron and Metal Company Inc. (VIMCO), of Ashland, Virginia. The Lutron Shading Solutions Roman Shades were recalled after a serious strangulation hazard was discovered, posing serious dangers to children.
Children can become entangled in the cord or fabric and if the child pulls on the cord, it can become wrapped around their neck causing fatal results. At this point, there have been no injuries reported involving the blinds.
Lutron Shading Solutions Roman shades were sold in a variety of different fabrics, colors, and sizes. The shades required professional installation. Consumers can identify the recalled product by the “Lutron Shading Solutions” or “Lutron Shading Solutions by VIMCO”, which can be found printed on the packaging. The shades were sold at specialty stores and Expo Design Centers.
Consumers should contact Lutron Electronics to plan for the removal, repair, and/or reinstallation of the defective shades. If consumer’s shades were manual and not electronic, check if the tension device was set up. If it was not, it should be installed immediately into the floor or wall. For further questions about installment or other concerns, contact Lutron at (866) 793-4270 or go to the company’s website at www.lutron.com/CERUSromans.
