News for Kentucky bus accident lawyers- Lee County, KY bus crash involving pickup truck injured three people, including two children.
Lee County, KY—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) involving a school bus and pickup truck caused two children and a motorist to suffer non-life threatening injuries on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. The impact of the crash sent the bus and truck careening down a 35-foot embankment in Lee County, Kentucky, according to information provided by LEX18.com.
Bystanders watched intently as rescue personnel worked to pull a Middle Kentucky Head Start bus from the bottom of a 35-foot drop after the Tuesday afternoon bus crash. Reports stated the school bus, driven by 29-year-old Benjamin Estes, smashed into 38-year-old Randy Gabbard’s eastbound pickup truck, causing both of the vehicles to swerve off the roadway and down the embankment nose-first. The collision occurred at Walk Log Branch Road and Kentucky Route 52, near the Breathitt County line.
Two children, identified as 4-year-old Aaron Childers and 5-year-old Timmy Johnson, were the only children occupying the school bus at the time of impact. The school bus is equipped with seat belts, which were seemingly credited for preventing the children from being ejected through the bus’ window. Emergency medical services (EMS) crews transported the two young children to area hospitals for injuries, which were thankfully deemed to be minor.
According to Josh Childers, a relative of both of the children onboard the bus, “The bus was all dinged up in the front, all bruised in, and the truck was mangled in the front.” Gabbard, the driver of the pickup truck, also reportedly suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital as well. A passenger in the pickup truck, the bus driver and the monitor aboard the bus all refused medical transport.
It was not stated if any citations were issued with regard to the injurious pickup truck-involved bus wreck. Investigations are expected to continue.
