North Fort Myers, FL—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) in Lee County Saturday evening, October 2, 2010, resulted in two fatalities and left seven others injured. The deadly two-vehicle crash, which caused both a van and SUV to overturn, occurred in the northbound lanes of U.S. 41, according to information provided by the News-Press.com.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) accident reports indicated a 81-year-old Doris Shultz attempted to exit the Heron’s Glen community at the intersection of Avenida Del Vera and U.S. 41 when the wreck occurred.
As Shultz began to cross U.S. 41, a southbound van seemingly slammed into the side of her SUV. Both the van, driven by 52-year-old Terry Savasuk, and the SUV flipped over on impact, FHP troopers reported.
Seven people, including a child, were occupying the van when the collision occurred. Two of those passengers, identified as 74-year-old Evelyn Lindge and 76-year-old Robert Lindge, were rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital before their severe injuries sadly proved fatal. Their relationship was not disclosed.
Four other passengers in the wrecked van, including an 8-year-old girl, suffered unspecified injuries in the rollover wreck. Savasuk sustained minor injuries as well.
Shultz and her 84-year-old passenger, Joseph Shultz, suffered serious injuries in the SUV rollover accident.
Officials from the FHP are expected to conduct a full probe into the fatal North Fort Myers collision.
