Washington Township, PA—Three people were injured, one critically, in a Washington Twp. wreck Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010. The horrific two-vehicle collision, in which speed appeared to be a factor, happened along Washington Boulevard (Route 191) at approximately 10 p.m., as reported by the Express-Times.
According to information provided by Washington Twp. Police Officer Scott Miller, an unidentified man was behind the wheel of a Honda Civic, apparently speeding in the northbound lanes of Route 191, when he lost control of his car while trying to negotiate a curve.
The Civic subsequently swerved around and was violently rear-ended by 67-year-old Joseph Bartosh’s Saturn Outlook SUV. Reports indicated the rear of the Civic separated from the rest of the vehicle and was sent careening into a driveway about 100 feet away from the initial point of impact.
Fire rescue and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel responded to the crash scene, where they were forced to extricate both drivers from their damaged vehicles.
Joseph Bartosh and his wife, 67-year-old Annette Bartosh, were rushed to Fountain Hill-based St. Luke’s Hospital via ambulance. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
The driver of the Honda, who remains unidentified pending family notification, was airlifted to St. Luke’s after suffering “very critical injuries” in the motor vehicle collision.
Authorities are expected to conduct a full investigation into the injurious Washington Twp. accident. It was not clear if any citations have been issued as of yet.
