Port Chester, NY — Strangulation risks has prompted the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and The Shade Store to announce a voluntary product recall of about 45,000 Roman shades. The CPSC announced the product recall on June 30, 2011.
The nationwide product recall was issued after discovering that a child could be strangled if they place his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and fabric on the backside of the blind. A child is also at risk for strangulation when they pull the cord out and wrap it around his/her neck.
The CPSC reported that this recall involves custom-made Roman shades. The shades were made out of fabric and of woven wood. The shades do not have any permanent markings.
Consumers are being advised to call the Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC) for a free repair kit toll-free at (800) 506-4636 anytime or visit www.windowcoverings.org. All known customers are being directly contacted by The Shade Store.
