Kansas City, MO — A second Warrior Dash participant has died following the July 30 race in Kansas City. Jeff Fink died on August 9, after collapsing while taking part in the 5k obstacle race, reported Fox4KC.
Fink was among a dozen people who were hospitalized due to heat-related illnesses during the race.
Fink was rushed to the hospital after collapsing while suffering from an apparent heat stroke. His core temperature reached 111 degrees while on the track, and was still 108 while being rushed to the hospital.
Fink died after his lungs “gave in” while being treated for an infection.
Another Kansas City Warrior Dash competitor also died while participating in the event. Jeremiah Morris, 28, was rushed to the hospital after also collapsing on the course. Doctors took Morris’ temperature and got a core temperature reading of 111 degrees. Morris’ parents say their son died because of thinned blood and damage that was done to his organs, as previously reported in “Kansas City ‘Warrior Dash’ Racer Dies, 13 Hospitalized.”
