Paterson, NJ — A two-alarm fire injured five firefighters and displaced 17 residents on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 in a large, three-story building at 116 Sherman Ave. The blaze ignited around 2:50 p.m., and quickly spread to 118 Sherman Avenue, as reported by NorthJersey.com.
According to the Paterson Fire Department, the fire appears to have ignited toward the rear of the building’s top floor of 116 Sherman Ave., which then spread to 118 Sherman Ave., also a three-story building.
The five injured firefighters were transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. The identities of the injured firemen are being withheld at this time.
All three floors of 116 Sherman Ave. sustained heavy damage, while one the second and third floors of 118 Sherman Ave. suffered damage.
Seventeen residents were displaced as a result of the fire.
Investigations into the fire and how it was started are underway.
