New Orleans, LA — After three days at sea, seven of the 10 oil workers who went missing in the Gulf of Mexico after calling for help during Tropical Storm Nate have been found alive. The seven workers were rescued Sunday, September 11, 2011, as well as two bodies who have yet to be identified, reported WDSU.
According to Petroleos Mexico, the two deceased people are being identified and one worker still remains missing.
The survivors were found 51 miles off the coast of Campeche in an enclosed life raft, called the Trinity II.
The survivors were identified as Jeremy Parfait of Houma and Ted Derise of New Iberia. The other survivors are from Mexico and Bangladesh.
The search and rescue effort was launched after the employees of Houston-based Geokinetics Inc. called for help Thursday afternoon when they evacuated into the enclosed life raft. Trospical Storm Nate disabled the vessel the oil workers were on before evacuating into the Gulf of Mexico.
