Warrenton, OR — A two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a school bus left six students and a 64-year-old man with injuries Monday afternoon, September 12, 2011. The crash occurred on the Oregon coast at the intersection of Highway 101 and Perkins Road, reported KATU.
According to the Oregon State Police, the collision occurred when the school bus pulled out from the Perkins Road and Highway 101 intersection—after stopping at the intersection—when a 2001 F150 pickup truck hit the passenger side of the bus.
Responding emergency crews rushed six students on board of the school bus to area hospitals for treatment of injuries. One student was reportedly seriously injured, while the others sustained minor injuries. The victims included a 6-year-old, 9-year-old, 11-year-old, 13-year-old and two 16-year-olds. The seriously injured child was identified as a 16-year-old girl.
The driver of the pickup, John N. Cook, 64, of Gearhart, was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Investigations into the school bus crash are underway. No citations have been issued as of yet.
