Salt Lake City, UT — A collision involving a motorcycle and a TRAX train left two men with serious injuries on Sunday, September 11, 2011. The motorcycle accident occurred near the intersection of South Temple and 200 West at around 2:40 p.m., reported the Desert News.
According to Salt Lake City police officials, the men were riding on the same motorcycle eastbound along South Temple, when the driver made a left turn against the traffic signal. The motorcycle crossed in front of the eastbound train, which caused the train to hit the bikers. The train then dragged the motorcycle for about 20 feet before coming to a stop.
Responding emergency crews rushed the two men to a Salt Lake City hospital in serious but stable condition.
A witness to the crash reported that the men were in their 20s and were not wearing helmets. They were reportedly speaking before being rushed to the hospital.
None of the 12 passengers on the TRAX train were injured, or the train’s operator.
The driver of the train was placed on administrative leave pending the completion of the accident investigation.
Investigations are underway.
