Honolulu – The Hawaii Senate has passed a privacy measure referred to as the Steven Tyler Act. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the bill, which provides protections for those who have unwanted pictures or videos taken of them during private moments, making it a civil violation to do so, was passed on Tuesday
Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler reportedly asked Sen. Kalani English to sponsor the measure after a national publication featured pictures of him and his girlfriend leading to issues within his family.
Among those who oppose the measure are The National Press Photographers Association and the Society of Professional Journalists, citing it could have a negative impact on freedom of the press.
The bill is now set to be considered by the House.
