Huntington Station, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A New York City Firefighter Chaplin has been pronounced dead after calling in a bagel shop fire, announced Newsday. A chaplain firefighter of the Huntington Manor Volunteer Fire Department died in the line of duty when he reported a fire at a Long Island Uber bagel shop located in Suffolk County.
Police officials reported the chaplain firefighter to be Richard Holst who was said to have fallen dead after having had reported about the fiery blaze early Wednesday morning. The New York Fire Department (FDNY) officials said that emergency medical services (EMS) arrived to transport the fatally injured chaplain firefighter to the hospital so doctors could attempt to resuscitate him.
Medical officials declared the 60-year-old firefighter to be dead at the hospital the same morning. Richard Holst served as a chaplain firefighter for 31-years for the Huntington Manor Volunteer Fire Department. Another civil servant identified as firefighter Chief Robert Herley of Huntington Manor Fire Department died while serving in active duty, reported the Department.
Police are investigating the case to determine what contributed to the death of Holst. Sources reported the fire to have taken place at three in the morning. The fire was extinguished by 3:30 a.m. Suffolk County officials are looking into the cause for the fire at the bagel shop.
