Washington – The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug for morning sickness 30 years after the original version of it was taken off of the market. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the drug, previously called Bendectin, will be sold in the U.S. under the name Diclegis for the treatment of morning sickness.
Bendectin was pulled from the market previously due to safety scares, which linked the drug to alleged birth defects; however, the assertions purportedly proved to be false.
Dr. Edward McCabe, medical director for the March of Dimes, is quoted by the AP as stating of the FDA decision, “There’s been a lot of buzz about this. Nothing better has come along” for the treatment of morning sickness in the last three decades.
