Salem, Oregon – An Oregon juror was jailed after being caught texting during an armed-robbery trial. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Marion County Circuit Judge Dennis Graves held Benjamin Kohler, 26, in contempt after noticing him texting, which resulted in Kohler spending almost two days in jail.
Kohler reportedly had no explanation for why he was texting at the time. Jurors in the state are instructed not to use cellphones in court.
An alternate juror was chosen to take Kohler’s place in the trial. The defendant was reportedly found guilty at the end of it on Thursday.
