Texarkana, Texas – A psych exam was ordered last week for a woman accused of sending letters laced with ricin to the U.S. President and New York Mayor. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a federal judge ordered the exam for Shannon Richardson after it was requested by her court-appointed attorney, Tonda Curry due to a purported questionable “pattern of behavior” she’s displayed.
In accordance with the ruling by U.S. Magistrate Judge Caroline Craven, Richardson will be evaluated at a medical facility within the federal Bureau of Prisons so a determination can be made about whether she is able to assist in her defense.
Curry is quoted by the AP as stating of her client, “She has never been inside a jail before, and that’s a very, very harrowing experience, especially when you’re older and pregnant… She is suffering a lot of anxiety and panic attacks.”
Richardson, 35, is six months pregnant and has been jailed since her arrest on June 7.
